Marshall joins list of sheriff candidates

A third candidate has joined the list of candidates for Lyon County Sheriff. “I’m pleased to announce my candidacy for the Lyon County Sheriff’s position. Over the past 25 years, I have been blessed with a supportive family as well as many opportunities with the Marshall Police Department that have prepared me to be Sheriff,” said the latest candidate Jim Marshall.

“A college education combined with my experience as Police Officer, School Resource Officer, Corporal, Sergeant, Interim Assistant Chief of Police, and Interim Chief of Police have prepared me with skills to provide leadership for the citizens of Lyon County,” he said.

“I have always placed a strong emphasis on working close with employees and I strongly believe that employees are the most vital component of any organization. My goal is to provide strong leadership based on hard work and integrity. Primary areas of focus will be strategic planning that is designed to meet the current threats and security challenges impacting educational and institutional safety," Marshall said.

“This can be done by forming strong partnerships with all local schools and police departments within Lyon County and developing plans that include response, situational awareness, and survival. My training in this area includes an Emergency Management professional certification through the State of Minnesota.”

He said another top priority is the opioid epidemic that is an increasingly prevalent community public health issue. Enforcement, education and prevention, healthcare and treatment all need to be part of the solution.”

Marshall added, “I want the citizens of Lyon County to know that I am excited for this opportunity and am committed to serve them to the best of my ability.”
