Medallion hunt added to Bug Days events

During Boxelder Bug Days in early September, the hunt will be on.

For a pair of medallions, that is.

Utilizing clues that will be given the week leading up to Boxelder Bug Days, hunters locating the medallions will be rewarded with prizes.

Early birds can pick up printed clues at the Arched Door or Prairie Winds Wellness before noon each day. At noon, the clues will be posted on the Go Minneota, GROW Facebook page.

“Anyone who finds the medallions will be given prizes that are donated by businesses,” said Stephanie Vlaminck of Prairie Winds Wellness, whose business is sponsoring the Medallion Hunt along with Gislason's and the Arched Door.

“The hunt will take place only on public and/or city property. The medallion(s) may be hidden along the trail or in a city park.”

Because of renovations taking place, Vlaminck said the medallions will not be hidden in Memorial Park.

What the medallion will look like or what they will be made of has yet to be determined. Once the medallions are ready, a photo of them will be printed in the Mascot, as well as on the Go Minneota, GROW Facebook page.

The medallion hunt returns after being on hiatus for a few years.

“The purpose of the medallion hunt, similar to last year’s essay contest, is to raise awareness for the Minneota EDA,” said Vlaminck.

“However, the EDA is not hosting the event because of the bylaws they must adhere to.”

“The hunt will add another fun element to Boxelder Bug Days, while also promoting the trail and parks Minneota offers,” said Vlaminck.
