School Board changes their renovation project

Monday night, the Minneota City Council, in special session, made significant changes in the 2018 proposed elementary school/locker room renovation project.

They earlier issued project bids for the building changes and improvements. Just one bid for the general contractor position was submitted and it had incorrect timelines. That bid was rejected and the other bids were tabled.

The general contractor will be allowed to adjust the bid to meet the timelines established by the District.

All bids are good for 60 days so this should not pose a problem for the timeline of the project for 2018.

The board also decided because there are a large amount of plumbing needs with this project, they will complete the bathrooms in the academic hallways in the summer of 2018 and the locker rooms will be remodeled in the summer of 2019.

The rest of the changes will continue and the plan is to have them done in 2018. This will include work in the elementary wing and upstairs and will include flooring and lighting, the gyms for acoustic panels and updating of the competition gym.

Considering the financial obligations of the $5.25 million project, the board approved a motion awarding the sale, determining the form and details, authorizing the execution, delivery, and registration and providing for the payment of general obligation school building bonds.

A roll call vote was taken and it was unanimously approved. SAME OFFICERS: Monday at the special re-organizational meeting, the Minneota School Board re-elected Dawn Van Keulen as board chairman.

Elected Vice Chair was Larry Buysse, with the Clerk Jeff Buysse and Treasurer Terri Myhre. There were no changes for the 2017 board. Unanimous ballets were cast for each of those positions.

There were also few other changes with the meetings staying the same at 7 p.m. the third Tuesday of each month in the Conference Room at the school. And board member compensation will remain the same for each position with the exception of the Chair compensation being increased to $600. The clerk will be $350, and members will receive $75 per regular or half day meeting and $150 for a full-day meeting.

IN OTHER action the board:

•Authorized the superintendent to invest school funds pursuant to Minnesota Statutes and approve the collateral from the financial institutions and approve the liquid asset fund for investment purposes.

The State Bank of Taunton will be the official depository.

•Designated The Minneota Mascot as the official newspaper for the district.

•Reviewed committee assignments and there will be several changes. (For more information regarding these committee assignments refer to the school website).
