SCHOOL BOARD MINUTES

A regular meeting of the Board of Education of ISD #414, Minneota Public Schools, was called to order on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at 6:30 p.m. in Room #103 by Chair Abby Thostenson.

Roll call and members present: Jon Buysse, Tom Skorczewski, Terri Myhre, Carmen Panka, Ryan Runia, Martin Hennen, and Abby Thostenson.
Attending: Kim Gades, Karen Dalager, Patty Myrvik, Heather Anderson, and Scott Monson.
Viking Pride: Board members and administrators shared several positive comments.
Les Engler shared information about buildings and grounds summer plans and a potential Solar for Schools project.
Devann Schultz provided an overview of the district’s technology program - past, present and future.
Motion by Myhre, seconded by Hennen, to approve the minutes of the April 23 School Board Regular Meeting. Motion passed unanimously.
Motion by Skorczewski, seconded by Panka, to approve the minutes of the April 23 School Board Retreat-Work Session. Motion passed unanimously.
Motion by Buysse, seconded by Myhre, to approve the check register. Motion passed unanimously.
Leadership shared their reports.
Superintendent Monson gave his report, reviewed student enrollment and enrollment projections, went over the Student Activity Fund, and provided a financial report.
Motion by Skorczewski, seconded by Buysse, to approve Consent Agenda items as amended. Motion passed unanimously.
Superintendent Monson presented preliminary information for the 2024-2025 budget. No action was taken.
Motion by Skorczewski, seconded by Hennen, to approve the creation of a Facility Master Planning Community Advisory Committee. Motion passed unanimously.
Motion by Buysse, seconded by Myhre, to approve the second reading of policy #214, #412 and #513. Motion passed unanimously.
Motion by Myhre, seconded by Buysse, to authorize Request for Proposals for a Solar for School project. Motion passed unanimously.
Motion by Skorczewski, seconded by Runia, to accept option #2 from All Energy Solar for $114,800. Motion passed unanimously.
Motion by Myhre, seconded by Runia, to approve visual arts as a student activity for 2024-2025. Motion passed unanimously.
Motion by Buysse, seconded by Skorczewski, to approve fees, prices and rates for 2024-2025. Motion passed unanimously.
Motion by Panka, seconded by Myhre, to approve the 2024-2025 Literacy Plan with an understanding that edits will be made before the June 15 submission deadline. Motion passed unanimously.
Motion by Buysse, seconded by Hennen, to approve a Resolution for a membership in the Minnesota State High School League for 2024-2025. Motion passed unanimously by roll call vote.
Motion by Skorczewski, seconded by Runia, to approve a Resolution commiting benefits for separation/retirement. Motion passed unanimously by roll call vote.
Motion by Skorczewski, seconded by Myhre, to approve an application for special education funds Statement of Assurances. Motion passed unanimously.
Motion by Skorczewski, seconded by Buysse, to accept Benson Public Schools as a member of the Camden Conference. Motion passed unanimously.
Policy #401, #402, #709 and #710, along with District Procedures for extra-curricular salary, benefits, and assignments were read for the first time. No action was taken.
Motion by Skorczewski, seconded by Runia, to approve a Resolution for acceptance of gifts/donations/grants. Motion passed unanimously by roll call vote.
Superintendent Monson reviewed upcoming meeting dates and times.
Motion by Skorczewski, seconded by Runia, to adjourn the meeting. Motion passed unanimously. The meeting was adjourned at 7:46 p.m.
