Sheriff recovers property, finds variety of animals

The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office assisted a property owner’s guardian with a court ordered recovery of property on Tuesday (Oct. 17) that resulted in turning over 100 dogs, four chickens and three ducks to Agent Keith Streff of the Minnesota Humane Society for any medical treatment and potential care.

The property owner’s guardian and Lincoln County Sheriff Chad Meester entered the property after 9 a.m. to recover the property. “Upon entering the property there were several dogs running loose and numerous others locked in makeshift kennels and pens,” said Lincoln County Sheriff Chad Meester.

The property is located in Lincoln County in Alta Vista Township. A Porter resident had been using the property for many years and was court ordered to vacate and remove themselves and their personal property.

“The property was posted on October 16, 2017 at approximately 9 a.m. and the person had 24 hours to comply with the court order,” said the sheriff.

Due to the circumstances and conditions of the property, the guardian turned over the animals and were documented and transported from the property to a Humane Society facility in the Twin Cities area for further care.

“The case is under investigation and will be turned over to the Lincoln County Attorney pending possible criminal charges,” said Sheriff Meester.
