Sirens, squad cars in Taunton

Sirens wailed, squad cars descended and the community of Taunton was all abuzz on Friday night and most folks were wondering what was going on.

Turns out it was a personal emergency with Alouis “Louie” Vlaminck, 87, of Marshall, suffering breathing problems in Taunton. Vlaminck was flown to Sioux Falls, where he passed away on Saturday, June 3 at Sanford Medical Center. Vlaminck was well known to this area as a long-time farmer in the area.

He retired in 1995 and after living in Marshall, developed a need for assistance and last March moved to the Senior Haven Nursing Home in Canby. He was known as a “jack-of-all-trades,” and liked to tinker as a mechanic in his free time. He was married to his wife Elaine for 62 years and she survives him.

A member of the U. S. Air Force, he served his country as an airplane mechanic during the Korean War. He was a brother to Gaston Vlaminck, a Minneotan who preceded him in death.

Services and burial for Vlaminck were held on Wednesday at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Marshall. A complete obituary and photo are in the "Obituary" section.
