Voit, Belaen 1st at Marshall meet

Minneota's Joe Voit and Thomas Belaen each placed first in their respective category in the Marshall Mini-Spectacular Speech Invitational on Saturday.
All Minneota speech team members placed in the top six at the annual event.
Voit was first in Novice Humor and third in Extemporaneous Speaking. Belaen was first in Storytelling.
"It was a fun day. It has been so great to be back in person and see speeches live," said Minneota coach Kim Gades, referring to last year's virtual competitions due to pandemic restrictions.
Emma Lipinski was second in Novice Humor and third in Prose. Joey Clark was second in Storytelling, while Noah Harms placed fifth in Novice Humor and Cora Fischer finished sixth in Great Speeches.
The tournament consisted of three rounds and a final.
Minneota hosts the next speech meet on Saturday, March 5.
