Farmers take bad beating from market, says priest
The recent severe grain price break brough a loss of a billion dollars to farmers, Rev. John Pawelski, pastor of the Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church of Taunton said in a letter written to the Mascot last week. Pawelski pointed out that farmers knew that farm products were too high and would have to come down, but they figured the leveling off process would be gradual, not sudden. Farmers lost about 50 cents per bushel on wheat, 47 cents per bushel on corn, and about 70 cents per bushel on soybeans.

Several concerned parents attend school board meeting
A group of around 30 parents came before the Minneota School Board at its meeting on Feb. 19, as to why an elementary teacher was placed on administrative leave last week. When the Mascot inquired about the reason, Superintendent Orlyn Wiemers said "no comment." Neither the students or parents were given any information, so the parents attended the school board meeting in an attempt to get answers. The Open Forum portion of the meeting was put on hold while the school's attorney was contacted. The school board then closed the meeting and parents waited in the hallways for the attorney's arrival. When the meeting resumed, parents did not get any answers to their questions and the Open Forum was taken away and parents were asked to write their questions down on paper and they would be given to the attorney for a response. The attorney then told the parents that the Data Privacy Act protects an employee during the time of investigation and no information will be made public until the investigation is complete.
