Village census was well attended at City Hall
The village census held at the City Hall last Monday evening was well attended. The local election will be held at the same place next Tuesday. Those placed in nomination at the census were George Geiwitz for President of Council, P.S. Jokull for Recorder, M.J. Moorse for Treasurer, Otto Anderson for Trustee, W.J. Salmon and O.H. Werpy for Constables, H,J, Burdorf for Justice of the Peace, Mrs. Ella Benson and T.N. Myhre for Assessor.

Grippe epidemic lowers attendance at school here
The epidemic of grippe, now quite prevalent, has considerably lowered attendance in the entire school for the past week and a half. The high point in absentees was reached Tuesday when there were 65 absent from school. Since then, however, absences have decreased steadily in number.

Minneota 5-man bowling team knocks down Tracy
A team composed of five of Minneota's crack bowlers decisively defeated a like aggregation from Tracy at the Dero Bowling Alley here last Friday evening.

Improvements to sewer, water system here to cost $200,000
A firm of Minneapolis engineers estimates that improvements in Minneota's water and sewage system, and building a sewage treatment plant will cost the village $200,000. These improvements include converting a large part of the present sewer system into a storm sewer system, installing a new sanitary sewer collection system, making extensions to the present water system. as well as building a sewage disposal plant.

Council favors buying land to build Minneota hospital
Members of the Village Council, at a special meeting Tuesday evening, agreed to have an attorney draw up the resolution authorizing purchase of land to be leased as a building site to the Minneota hospital when it is erected. The council agreed to invest up to $3,000 in a site. It is thought that the resolution will be prepared in time to be acted on at the next meeting of the council.

Minneota loses district title tilt to Marshall cagers, 54-40
Minneota's hopes of a district championship in basketball were smashed last Saturday evening when a hot Marshall quint took the title contest, 53 to 40, before a crowded gymnasium at the county seat. The Vikings had won earlier in the tournament, setting Tracy down by a score of 40 to 35 last Wednesday night, and then trimmed Lynd 58 to 49 on Thursday evening. The Tigers kept two men on Gislason, Minneota's high-scoring center, and allowed him but seven points. While Gislason was bottled up, the rest of the Vikings' squad couldn't make the ball drop through.

Minneota firemen called out to Christianson home
Minneota fire fighters were called to the Elmer Christianson residence last Sunday afternoon when an oil burner in the garage that is attached to the house became overheated. It is reported that there was little damage.

Minneota being considered for chapter of the Jaycees
It was announced this week that a Minnesota Chapter of the Jaycees is being considered for this village and a meeting to discuss this will be held at the local Rotary Hall on Monday, March 26. Any men between the ages of 18 and 35 who are interested in finding out more about the Jaycees are asked the attend the meeting. A group of Jaycees from Marshall will be in attendance to explain what the organization is all about.

Grandview Township charities start fund drive on Monday
Grandview Township Combined Charities opened its 1973 fund drive on Monday, March 12. Solicitors are as follows: Mrs. Merlin Downing, Mrs. Emil Gossens, Mrs. Orville Hennen, Mrs. Ed Boerboom, Mrs. Leger DeVlaeminck, Mrs. Joe Regnier, Mrs. Jack Hennen, Mrs. Daniel Van Keulen, Mrs, George DeVos, Mrs. John Boerboom, Mrs. Francis Claeys (president), and Mrs. Donald Boerboom (secretary).

Legion members vote to send Nick Lanners to Boys State
Lyall Gislason, Commander of Legion Post 199 in Minneota, announced that at a recent meeting, Legion members voted to send Nick Lanners to Boys' State. Lanners, the son of Jim and Judy Lanners, will attend Boys' State on June 14-20 at St. Olaf College in Northfield. Matthew Bottelberghe, the son of Harold and Julie Bottelberghe, was chosen at this year's alternate.

Minneota Brownies celebrate organization's 86th anniversary
Minneota Troop 313 hosted a potluck birthday party on March 10 at the Minneota Community Center in honor of the 86th anniversary of Brownie Girl Scouts. The local group entertained family and friends by sharing their Brownie experiences. The evening was topped off with birthday cake and ice cream. Members of Troop 313 at Caitlan Hetland, Kaylene Hostetler, Jessica Lozenski, Ashley Norman, Jess Roberts, Margo Schwartz and Molly Strandmark.

Minneota students compete in Science Fair at Mankato
Seventh and eighth grade students of Minneota Public School took their Science project to Mankato on March 14 and competed for prizes and awards. All came back with ribbons for their efforts. Those attending were Abby Yeo, Jennifer Coequyt, Abigail Koppien, Melissa Regnier, Ashley Rhymer, Justin Pesch, Karli Coover, Mike Belaen, Aleia Larson, David Wambeke, Sadie Johnson and Laurie Ratajczak.
