Funeral services for Geraldine (Gerry) Marie (Stienessen) Schmitt were held on Thursday, April 24 at Mary Mother of the Church in Burnsville, MN.
Gerry died peacefully on Friday, April 4 in Minneapolis, MN. She will be buried at a private service in Dawson, MN.
Gerry was born on Sept. 13, 1931 on a farm south of Marshall to John and Mary (DeCock) Stienessen. She was the third of seven children. She attended County School, graduated from the eighth grade from St. Edward's in 1944, and graduated from Minneota High School in 1948. After graduation, she worked for the Lyon County Coop Oil Co. In Marshall.
Gerry married Willie Schmitt at St. Edward's Church in Minneota. They farmed 24 years of their married life north of St. Leo, before moving to Dawson.
Gerry enjoyed plowing on the family farm. She also enjoyed golfing, sewing, knitting, playing cards, and watching the Twins and Vikings.
Gerry is survived by her daughter Pam (John) Caflisch of Burnsville, brother Harold (Fran) Stienessen of Minneota, and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Willie; parents, John and Mary Stienessen; siblings, Bob (Jeanne) Stienessen; Lawrence (Mary Ann) Stienessen; Marie (Francis) Antony; Marian (Germain) Hoffmann; and Leonard (Julaine) Stienessen; and nephews Greg Antony and Bruce Hoffmann.
