A total of 65 student-athletes are participating in boys (28) and girls (37) cross country this fall for the Canby/Minneota teams. Of those, 11 boys and 11 girls ran on varsity at one time or another.
"For the girls, we have our entire state qualifying team back," said Allyson Pesek, now in her sixth season as head coach. "I know the girls are determined to be in the state meet again come November. They want to continue to build a strong team and be at the top of the section."
"The boys are ready to be competitive," Pesek added. "We have most of our team returning. The boys continue to be in the top five of the section, and the goal is making it to the state meet as a team."

Canby/Minneota Girls
At the state meet last season, the girls finished sixth out of 16 teams, and with the lineup intact this year, there are high hopes of a return trip and a higher finish.
Individually, Braelyn Merritt placed 20th out of 158 runners at state in 19:43.4 to earn All-State honors, as well as Academic All-State, along with Claire Stoks. Academic All-State is achieved by anyone in grades 10-12 finishing in the top 15 in the section meet that also maintains a GPA of 3.75 or higher.
Five returning varsity runners finished in the top 10 in the Camden Conference, each earning All-Conference honors. They were: Merritt, 1st; Stoks, 2nd; Mya Pesek, 4th; Jordyn Jostock, 6th, and Nohemi Diaz, 10th.
Merritt (5th) and Stoks (7th) each earned medals at the section meet.
The Canby/Minneota girls also earned Gold All-Academic Section last season. Merritt was All-Conference Academic.
