Boys second at indoor opener

The depth and power of Redwood Valley was a little too much for the Canby-Minneota boys’ track team — yet, they came with 19 points of the Cardinals in the season-opener at the Redwood Valley Fieldhouse.
The indoor meet found senior Carter Wente taking up where he left off by blowing away the field in the 60-meter hurdles 9.2 seconds — beating second placed Hansen of Redwood Valley by about two seconds. Wente and Anderson teamed up in the relays to help the C-M boys win a title.
The boys 4x100-meter relay team of Wente, Anderson, Cole VanOverbeke and Jared Josephson won by a couple of seconds over Redwood Valley to capture the event in :49.21.
Wente, in addition to relay and hurdle wins, also took first in the 200-meter dash in :25.1.
Cameron Anderson, a speedster from Canby-Minneota ran the 60-meter dash in 7.9 seconds and nipped Yellow Medicine’s east Jacob Kluver at the wire. Kluver an a 7.97.
Josephson went from the relay to the 400-meter dash and won the even in :58.2, just edging David Hidalgo of Yellow Medicine in, :58.21 to :58.74.
And Josephson and VanOverbeke parlayed their hands in winning the 4x100-meter race into a championship in the 4x400-meter run. Joined by Jalyn Ufkin and Jaden Kindopp, they ran a 3:52 and beat Redwood Valley by 13 seconds.

The 4x800-meter relay team of Jalyn Ufkin, Blake Stoks, Tristan Bierschenk and Jared Josephson won the event in 9:14.5. They beat Redwood Valley by over six seconds.
