Carrasco and Reiss win 100th; Gruenes 75th

It was a banner night as both Eric Carrasco and Blake Reiss won their 100th matches of their careers, while Jonah Gruenes won his 75th in a 62-9 win over Dawson-Boyd/Lac qui Parle Valley/Montevideo United.

Minneota lost to Worthington 32-30 in its other match in the home triangular. Carrasco won his 100th match with a 16-0 technical fall over Tyler Schickedanz of United. Reiss won his 100th match with a pin over United wrestler Avery Wittnebel in 4:30.

Gruenes pinned Kadin Huntley of United in 1:48 for his 75th win. Five Minneota grapplers went 2-0 in the triangular; Carrasco (one technical fall) at 120 pounds, Zack Fier (two pins) at 126, Kade Lozinski (one pin) at 132, Gruenes (one pin) at 138, and Conner Sik at 160.

Seven others went 1-1; Peyton Gillund at 103 and 113, Alex DePestel at 152, Branden Johnson at 160, Hudson Scholten at 190, Jackson Esping at 220, and Jayden Gamrak at 285. Against Worthington, Minneota led 30-15, but then dropped the final four matches, including a forfeit at 182 pounds.

Minneota wrestled four ranked teams in a 24-hour period prior to this triangular. "We have another tough week ahead as we are scheduled to wrestle seven duals this week as we close out the regular season on Feb. 1 in Albert Lea," said Coach Matt Myrvik.

"We are coming off a month where we have not had a lot of practices due to our schedule, and really need to get some time in the room."
