C/M boys, girls third at Marshall Invite

The Canby/Minneota boys and girls teams both took third place in the Marshall Invitational last Tuesday.
"We are so proud. All three of us coaches were beaming with smiles and admiration for each of our runners today," said head coach Allyson Pesek. "This group of kids work hard and it shows on race day."
The C/M boys had three of the top 10 runners and finished third with 91 points. Worthington won the meet with 42 points, while Marshall finished second with 52 points.
Worthington had the top three runners with Mikele Walu first in 16:22.8, Faniel Wolday second in 16:25.1 and Filmon Wolday third in 16:55.7.
Kolton Duis of C/M placed sixth in a time of 17:10.4, Zach Ourada was seventh in 17:12.2 and Blake Giese 10th in 17:28.5. The other two counted scores for C/M were Sam Skorczewski, 33rd in 19:23.9; and Logan Myhre, 35th in 19:33.3.
Marshall won the girls' meet with 37 points. Murray County Central-Fulda was second with 43 points and Canby/Minneota third with 78 points.
Amanda Overgaauw, the defending Class A state champion from Murray County Central-Fulda, came in well ahead of the pack in first in a time of 17:37.5. Allyson Sample of Marshall was second in 19:12.0 and Kaylee Walkin of Windom was third in 19:16.8.
Braelyn Merritt was the top C/M runner, finishing fifth in 19:41.2, while teammate Claire Stoks was right behind in sixth in 19:41.2. Other scored C/M runners were Hannah Vlaminck, 17th in 22:46.0; Nohemi Diaz, 20th in 23:02.3; and Hannah Fadness, 30th in 24:08.1
"I know not all the runners felt this was their best," said Pesek, "but all of them showed grit and determination even through the struggles."
