C/M relay team 4th at state;
The Canby/Minneota girls 4 x 400 relay team placed fourth, and Aidyn Bruns finished fifth in the high jump at the Class A state meet Saturday at St. Michael-Albertville High School.
The 4 x 400 team was second in the preliminaries on Friday. Eden Valley-Watkins/Kimball won the event in a time of 4:01.39. The Canby/Minneota girls consisting of senior RyAnn Hansen, freshman Claire Stoks, sophomore Braelyn Merritt, and senior Grace Drietz finished in 4:05.45.
Bruns, a senior, jumped 5-2 to earn her fifth-place medal. Annaka Forsberg of Blooming Prairie was first with a leap of 5-6.
Stoks also placed ninth in the 1600 run in 5:24.34. The winning time of 5:14.16 was posted by Jade Rypkema of Nevis.
Merritt also qualified for state in the 400 run. She ran 1:02.32 in preliminaries but did not qualify for Saturday's final.
The C/M girls' 4 x 200 relay team of Hansen, Bruns, Karlie Wollum and Natalie Stoks ran 1:51.51 in preliminaries but did not qualify for the finals.
Trevor Gray, the lone Canby/Minneota boys' state qualifier, placed seventh in the high jump at 6-2. The winning jump was Jory Peter of Minneapolis North in 6-5.
Shaina Zinter of Concordia Academy was a triple state champion, winning the 200 dash in 24.98, the 100 hurdles in 14.53 and the 300 hurdles in 42.43.
Jade Rypkema of Nevis won both the 1600 run in 5:14.16 and the 3200 run in 10:36.99.
In the boys' state meet, Ashton Sandbulte of Luverne won both the 100 dash in 10.91 and the 200 dash in 21.94.
Jacob McCleary of Perham was a double winner, placing first in the 800 run in 1:55.03 and the 1600 run in 4:21.12.
Owen Petersohn of Trinton was also a double winner, crossing first in the 110 hurdles in 15.23 and the 300 hurdles in 39.97.
