C/M runners compete with big schools; 2 boys, 2 girls crack top 20 at Willmar

Canby/Minneota competed against much larger schools and fared well on Saturday at Eagle Creek Country Club in Willmar.
Marshall won the boys meet, with Perham, St. Cloud Cathedral, Willmar and Eagan rounding out the top five. Canby/Minneota finished seventh among the 12 teams.
In the girls' race, Hopkins placed first, followed by Perham, Eagan, Luverne and Marshall. Canby/Minneota finished eighth among 10 full squads.
Kolton Duis was 14th and Zach Ourada 15th for the Canby/Minneota boys.
Braelyn Merritt cracked the top 10, finishing 10th in a time of 20:09.

The Canby/Minneota boys and girls had the top two runners in each race as the boys finished first among seven teams, while the girls were second among five teams at the Yellow Medicine East Invitational last Thursday at the Granite Falls Golf Course.
"Lots of medals went home, lots of smiles and words of peer joy of pride for the times we ran," said Canby/Minneota coach Allyson Pesek. "It was a good night."
In the boys' race, Kolton Duis placed first in a time of 16:56, while teammate Zach Ourada was second in 16:58. Blake Giese was fifth in 17:26. Also counting toward the team score was Hunter Danielson in 18th in 18:51 and Logan Myhre 21st in 18:59.
The Canby/Minneota boys edged Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd 45 to 48. Montevideo was third with 80 points.
Braelyn Merritt crossed the finish line first in 19:34 in the girls' race. Her teammate, Claire Stoks, was second in 19:54. Hannah Vlaminck came in 12th in 22:14, Nohemi Diaz 15th in 22:41, and Hannah Fadness 18th in 23:01.
Lac qui Parle Vallet/Dawson-Boyd won the girls' race 36-39 over Canby/Minneota. Central Minnesota Christian School was third with 47 points.
