DeSmet playing for Mustangs softball team

The Southwest Minnesota State softball team has announced another doubleheader will be relocated this week as the team will now face Concordia-St. Paul on Thursday in West St. Paul, Minnesota.

SMSU and CSP will play a doubleheader starting at 11:30 a.m. at the West St. Paul Dome. The games were originally scheduled to be played in St. Paul.

The Mustangs have already played six games in the indoor facility this season.

SMSU is 6-15 overall, 1-5 NSIC, while CSP is 17-11 overall, 2-4 NSIC. Minneota’s Sara DeSmet is a junior catcher for the Mustangs.

She has been named an academic all NSIC player and last year made 19 appearances, primarily as a pinch runner. She had two stolen bases in two attempts and scored six runs.

She played for Minneota-Canby in High School and is the daughter of Dave and Monica DeSmet. She’s an education major at SMSU.

This year DeSmet had three hits at Sioux Falls, two of them doubles.

She also has a triple, five total bases and has knocked in two runs with 13 runs scored in her careers.

She has also caught in a game against Upper Iowa this season.
