Hennen hits 1,000 in Vikings' win over D-B
Senior wing Jacob Hennen scored the 1,000th point of his career en route to a game-high 24 points as Minneota held off Camden Conference foe Dawson-Boyd 75-70 on Saturday in Minneota.
It was the season opener for both teams.
The Vikings trailed the Blackjacks 18-13 with 13:25 remaining in the first half, but then went on a 24-12 run to hold a 37-30 advantage at intermission.
Hennen, a three-year starter, entered the fray with 993 career points. He scored three quick baskets on jump shots before reaching the 1,000-point mark on a close-range jumper with nine minutes left in the first half. He now has 1,017 points for his career.
For the game, Hennen made 9 of 16 shots, including 4 of 8 on three-pointers. He was one of five Minneota players to reach double digits in the game. Jacob Citterman added 16 points on 7-of-13 shooting, while AJ Josephson had 14 points, Bishop Drietz 11 and Cale Sorensen 10.
The Vikings shot 51 percent from the field (31 of 61), but only 42 percent from the charity stripe (5 of 12).
Dawson-Boyd had four players reach double figures, led by Gauge Liebl with 24, Keegon Wicht with 14, Ezekiel Sather 12 and Micah Olson 11.
Dawson-Boyd regained its lead briefly in the second half, 44-43, but never led again after that. With the game tied 54-54, Minneota went on a 15-2 run and never relinquished the lead.
The Blackjacks shot 35 percent from the field (10 of 29), including 10 of 29 shots from behind the arc.
