HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL

Minneota won three of five matches in an elite tournament this past weekend at Southwest Minnesota State University, finishing 10th among 32 teams.
Against big-school competition, the Vikings (5-2) defeated Eastview in their opening match before losing to Maple Grove. Minneota then topped Prior Lake and Sioux Falls Roosevelt and fell to Marshall.
"We were usually outsized, but I liked that my offense was still taking solid swings," said coach Hayley Fruin. "We just need to work harder and be more disciplined in keeping the ball in front of us and limit our errors offensively. We still need to improve on our serving as well. We struggled with getting teams out of system and need to be more aggressive behind the service line."
As the Vikings adjusted to playing against bigger competition, they began playing with more confidence.
"I thought we played better on Saturday than we did Friday," said coach Hayley Fruin. "We especially blocked and serve received better on Saturday. I really thought a few kids really stepped up for us which was nice to see."
Elivia Faris had a solid tournament with team-highs in kills with 37 and blocks with 17. Ella Johnson was also a threat at the net with 30 kills.
"Elivia had some great games and was really strong at the net," Fruin said. "Lyzah Sussner played great defense and I thought my setters did a nice job Saturday, defensively and spreading the ball around."
Sussner had a team-high 65 digs. Nevaeh Hennen was credited with 71 assists and 30 digs, and Faith Myhre had 37 assists. Abby Rolbiecki notched six service aces to go along with 35 digs.
