Larson, Reiss set records at SMSU

Those two former Minneota High School  volleyball players, Megan Larson and Taylor Reiss are at it again.
SMSU hitter Taylor Reiss, has been named the Sports Imports/ AVCA Division II National Player of the Week.
Reiss had 18 kills in the championship win over Concordia-St. Paul and  became just the 14th person to surpass the 1,000 career kill milestone.
She was also named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference’s Offensive Player of the Week during the Mustangs’ run to a 4-0 record and a Colorado Premier Championship win this past weekend.
Reiss is now a two-time winner of the National Player of the Week award. This marks the first time this year and the fifth time in program history that a Mustang volleyball player has been recognized as the National Player of the Week.
Reiss had her best match of the weekend in the championship match of the Colorado Premier, recording 18 kills, nine digs and four total blocks with one solo block to help lead the Mustangs to a 3-1 win over the defending National Champion, Concordia-St. Paul Golden Bears.
She was also named Tournament MVP for her performances against four nationally ranked opponents (No. 1 Concordia-St. Paul, No. 8 Ferris State, No. 17 Tarleton State, No. 20 Tampa) last weekend.
Megan Larson, a four year starter at setter for SMSU,  has became the program’s all-time leader in assists in the Mustangs’ win on Friday night over No. 8 Ferris State.
Larson averaged 13.29 assists per set in the Colorado Premier Challenge this past weekend after recording 186 total assists to help SMSU win the tournament for the first time in program in history.
Larson had 55 assists in the Mustangs’ win in the championship match over No. 1 Concordia-St. Paul.
Larson also was named  Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Setter of the Week.
Southwest Minnesota State became the top-ranked Division II volleyball team in the nation this week after its 8-0 start to the season which is the best start to a season in program history.
