Sophomore running back Ryan Meagher ran for 185 yards in only 10 carries and scored three touchdown as Minneota steamrolled Yellow Medicine East 55-12 in a Little Sioux Conference game Friday night at K.P, Kompelien Field.
The Vikings (2-0) scored in every quarter and amassed 25 first downs and 523 total yards in handing the Sting (1-1) their first loss.
Minneota scored on its opening possession, an eight-play, 52-yard drive that was capped by Meagher's three-yard TD run on a sweep around left end.
On YME's ensuing possession, Jack Lacek intercepted Jacob Peterson pass near the sideline and scampered 40 yards for a score to make it 14-0 after one quarter.
The Vikings made it 21-0 on their first possession of the second quarter when Zack Fier scored on a 25-yard run. Fier carried 13 times for 99 yards.
Three minutes later, after forcing the Sting to punt, Minneota scored again when Isaac Pohlen hit Fier in the corner of the end zone from eight yards out, making it 27-0.
Peyton Sheik, kicking in place of Peyton Gillund, converted seven of eight extra points, Gillund was nursing a sprained ankle, but was able to play on both offense and defense, as well as punting once.
With 39 seconds left in the half, YME got on the board when Peterson hit Brady Dahlager for a 25-yard TD pass into the right corner of the end zone to bring the Sting within 27-6 at halftime.
The Vikings scored three times in the third quarter on touchdown runs of 66 and 47 yards by Meagher, and a two-yard TD pass from Pohlen to Gillund, who caught six passes for 96 yards.
Pohlen had a strong game behind center, completing 10 of 18 passes for 160 yards and two touchdowns.
After scored again when Peterson and Dahlager hooked up on a 91-yard touchdown in the third quarter.
The lone touchdown of the final quarter came when Zeke Monzon took a handoff coming across in motion and outraced the YME defenders into the left corner of the end zone.
Minneota rushed for 363 yards with eight players gaining positive yardage.
Defensively, the Vikings limited YME to only six first downs. Six players had a tackle for loss, including sacks by Hudson Scholten and Branden Johnson.
Lacek and Easton Johnston had interceptions.
