Minneota boys open playoffs with win
Jacob Citterman pumped in 20 points and Logan Sussner pulled down 23 rebounds to go along with his 13 points as Minneota opened Section 3A-North with a convincing 71-54 win over Yellow Medicine East on Thursday.
The Vikings utilized a 24-9 to break away from an 18-18 deadlock and turn the game into a rout.
"I think nerves played a little bit in the beginning," said Sussner. "YME played zone against us and we weren't attacking the middle so it took us a little while to get going."
Citterman hit 8 of 15 shots from the field and also collected six rebounds.
Alex Saltzer delivered 13 points, seven rebounds and three steals; and Cale Sorensen chipped in 12 points and three steals.
Nolan Boerboom just missed a double-double for the Vikings with eight points and 10 rebounds. Boerboom and Sorensen had a pair of three-pointers each.
Sussner had more rebounds in the game than the entire Yellow Medicine East team, 23-21.
"I enjoy rebounding," said Sussner, who pulled down 13 offensive boards in helping Minneota gain a 49-21 advantage.
"I try to get position as best that I can and anticipate where the shot is going. I try to stay as aggressive as I can when attacking the boards."
Carter Sneller led all scorers with 26 points for YME, connecting on 11 of 21 shots. on Kyle Chase and Cory Dahlager had 11 points each.
