Minneota lands 7 on All-District

Banish, Myhre, Gillund recognized as team’s Most Valuable Players

Minneota had several player recognized by the Southwest District it competed in this year.
Beau Banish, a senior, was named the Most Valuable Defensive Lineman; AJ Myhre, a senior, was the Most Valuable Defensive Back; and sophomore kicker Peyton Gillund was named Special Teams Most Valuable Player.
Banish, a 5-9, 205-pound lineman, had 39 tackles this season for the Vikings. Myhre amassed 33 tackles and added four interceptions. Gillund converted 26 of 28 extra points and a pair of field goals.
Also named to the Southwest All-District team from Minneota were senior quarterback/defensive back Jacob Hennen, senior two-way lineman Jacob Citterman, senior wingback/linebacker Joey Rybinski, and junior wingback/linebacker AJ Josephson.
Jackson Esping, a junior lineman/linebacker; and Tucker Thooft, a sophomore wide receiver/linebacker, each earned Honorable Mention honors.
Citterman, Hennen, and juniors Jonah Gruenes and Tyler Schmidt were named to the Southwest All-Academic team.
Minneota finished 8-0 this season and defeated BOLD to win the Section 5A championship.
