Hancock's Andrew Russet stole second as Beau Buysse took the throw and Adam Durfee backed up the play.

Mudhens fall 3-1, season over

The season ended for the Minneota Mudhens Saturday when they lost to the Hancock Orphans, 3-1 at Rosen in the Section 9C Tournament.

Although Henry Pitched well with nine strikeouts and reliever Danny Hennen had two more, the Hens stranded 14 runners and couldn't push across any more runs.

Brendan Foss pitched the distance for Hancock with three strikeouts and three walks.

Minneota outhit the Orphans 9-5 — but they couldn't get the key hit when they needed it.

Beau Buysse had a pair of hits, Tyson Sonnenburg two and Adam Durfee two. Jesse Drager and Preston Nuy added the other two hits.

Minneota played without third baseman Austin Buysse because he is at football camp — but Nuy played well at third base in his absence.

"This is the story of the last half of our season. We get runners on, but we just can't score runs," said assistant manager Beau Buysse.

Minneota finished the season at 11-12.
