Back behind the plate after a long absence has been Beau Buysse. He caught against Cottonwood Sunday. He's been reluctant to catch due to concussions suffered in college wrestling. But Sunday he told The Mascot, "I'm taking little steps on this." He wants to catch but doesn't want a re-occurance of the concussion problem.

Mudhens roll over Cottonwood, nip Madison

•Put themselfs in good spot for the playoffs after three straight league wins.

Good pitching! Solid defense — that will win games.

The Minneota Mudhens found that out when they swept three games this past week from Land O'Ducks League opponents.

They beat Montevideo 4-2; Sunday stopped Cottonwood 10-5 and came back for the night part of the doubleheader Sunday to defeat Madison, 3-2.

The wins left them 8-4 in the league and in a fourth-fifth-or sixth place spot in the conference playoffs.

The first six teams are seated and the rest play off for the final two spots. As a result, Minneota won't play for nearly two weeks as they await the "play-in" teams round of the playoffs.

"We'll try and get a couple of exhibition games," said Assistant Manager Beau Buysse. Manager Tyson Sonnenburg said, "It's just too long and we have good timing going right now and we don't want to lose it. So we'll find someone to play.

Danny Hennen threw most of the win over Cottonwood and got help from Zach Nuy and closer Henry Pesch.

In the sqeaker over Madison, Nuy pitch until the ninth, giving up just four hits. He fanned four. Pesch came back in the ninth to strike out the side — despite giving up a hit, and Minneota had the Sunday sweep.

Against Madison, the ignitor was Adam Durfee. He broke up a 0-0 game with a triple in the fourth. He scored on a groundout by Pesch.

He doubled in the sixth with Pesch following with a single and both scored on a single by Austin Buysse and a single by Danny Hennen.

Nuy's only bump in the road was  the fifth when his teammates fell apart and committed four errors. A pair of hits by Brandon Hill and Seth Haas led to the two runs.

But Nuy and Pesch put out the fire the rest of the way.

Durfee ended the game 3-4 with two runs scored. Austin Buysse had a pair of hits.

IN THE Cottonwood game, Mike Luke smashed the ball over the right field fence for a two-run home run in the eighth. The Mudhens scored one more in the ninth and used the arm of Pesch to put the Cardinals away.

Cottonwood committed seven errors and kicked the ball around to help the Minneota cause. Preston Nuy, fresh from the American Legion win, stepped in and doubled during a three-run rally in the fourth.

Austin Buysse knocked in a pair of runs with two hits as the Mudhens coasted to the 10-5 win.

Jacob Nye had a pair of hits for the Cardinals and Seth Boerboom was the starter and loser.
