Vikings erase 11-point deficit
Minneota 54, RTR 47
(Result Thursday, Feb. 2)
Trailing by 11 points at halftime, Minneota (15-4) went on a 15-3 run to start the second half and went on to win its seventh straight game.
The Vikings, who beat RTR 64-49 in a meeting seven days earlier, started out the second half on a 15-3 run to take a 37-36 lead with 12:20 left.
Ireland Stassen notched 19 points, 14 rebounds, seven assists and three steals to spark the Vikings. Grace Hennen finished with 16 points and seven rebounds. Stassen hit Hennen with football-type passes four times that results in fastbreak layups in the second half.
Tied 19-19, the Knights (12-9) took control of the first half over the final six minutes when they went on a 14-3 run to grab a 33-22 halftime cushion.
The Vikings then switched to a zone defense in the second half and the change quickly paid dividends, limiting RTR to just three field goals in the second half.
Minneota's margin of victory could have been much greater had the Vikings been more proficient at the free-throw line where they cashed just 6 of 21 shots (29 percent), including just 3 of 14 in the second half.
Dakoda Hennen had six points and three steals for Minneota. Kiersyn Hulzebos drained a pair of three-pointers for six points and Kenadi Arndt finished with five points and eight rebounds.
Alexis Shreurs led the Knights with 16 points, six rebounds and two steals.
