Vikings drubbed by LQPV, 7-2

Blake Wollschlager drove in three runs to back the four-hit pitching of Avery Wittnebel, who struck out 12, as Lac qui Parle Valley defeated Minneota 7-2 on Monday at K.P, Kompelien Field in Minneota.
The Vikings (7-5) scored both of their runs in the fifth inning. With one out, Jonah Gruenes singled. With two outs, Ryan Dalager walked and Jayden Gamrak reached on an error that scored Gruenes with the first run. Tyler Gronke then singled home Dalager.
Dalager started on the hill for the Vikings and was touched for eight hits and seven runs in 2 2/3 innings pitched. He was the victim of a couple of bloop hits and some fielding miscues, with only three of the runs earned off him.
Minneota, normally a reliable fielding team, made five errors.
Gamrak pitched the final 4 1/3 innings of relief and only allowed one hit and no runs, while walking two and striking out five.
"We were looking for a fourth pitcher going into sections," said assistant coach J.D. Pesch. "Jayden showed he could be that guy."

Jackson Lacek made his varsity mound debut and earned the win by hurling three innings before the Vikings (7-4) invoked the 10-run rule after five innings. Peyton Sheik led a 16-hit attack for the Vikings by going 4-for-4 and driving in four runs. Gillund had three hits and drove in two runs. Lacek, Isaac Pohlen and Jonah Gruenes had two hits apiece.
"Jackson had good control and kept nibbling the corners," said Minneota assistant/pitching coach J.D. Pesch. "Peyton has really owned the role of closing relief pitcher. He is calm and does his job."
The Vikings scored four times in each of the first two innings, added a single run in the third, then sent four more runners across the plate in the fourth inning.
