Vikings end skid; rout YME twice

Minneota got back on the winning track on Monday with a 17-3 and 10-5 sweep of Yellow Medicine East in a Camden Conference doubleheader.
The Vikings (4-5) were mired in a five-game losing streak before halting it with 15 hits over the two games. Struggling with errors during the losing skid, Minneota played much better defensively in the sweep.
In the opener, the Vikings scored in every inning and finished with eight hits. Abby Hennen had two hits, drove in two runs and swiped four bases. Abby Rost drove in three runs with a two-run double and a bases-loaded walk. Summer Hennen, Ava Larson, Zahndra Bordewyk, Tylee Groenhoff and Tessah Anhalt had one hit apiece. Summer Hennen and Bordewyk drove in two runs apiece.
Ava Larson earned the win with a complete-game four-hitter. She walked four and struck out five.
Bayli Sheller had two hits and drove in two runs for YME.
In the second game, Minneota broke open a 1-1 tie by scoring six runs in the top of the fifth inning and then added three more runs in the fifth.
Madison Hennen pitched 5 1/3 innings for the win, allowing only three hits. She walked eight and struck out eight. Larson earned the save with 1 2/3 hitless innings of relief, walking two and fanning two.
Ashlee Ann Cole had two of the Vikings' seven hits. Larson had a run-scoring double and Abby Hennen delivered a run-scoring triple. Audra Buysse, Zahndra Bordewyk and Faith Myhre had the other hits.
