Vikings fall to KMS, play Dawson-Boyd today

For two innings, Minneota had Kerkhoven-M-S stymied as the game settled into a 0-0 tie.

But in the third, when Isaac Call was hit by a pitch, the Saints bats heated up and three straight hits by Weston Gjerd, Dylan Rudningen and Caleb Collins — plus a sacrifice and double by Regan Carlson produced a 4-0 lead for KMS.

Pitcher Brant Buysse never recovered after the Saints added three more int he fifth and the 7-0 lead put the section game away.

The Vikings got a double from Alex Pohlen in the second, a single by Thomas Hennen in the sixth and a double by Pohlen again in the seventh and a single by Brant Buysse. But they never got as far as third base as two Saint hurlers struck out five Viking hitters to advance to the section 3A semifinals against Wabasso, a 5-2 winner over Lac qui Parle Valley.

Minneota will play at 5 p.m. today at Milroy against Dawson-Boyd in an attempt to keep their playoff homes alive. The second game pits Lac qui Parle Valley against Russell-Tyler-Ruthton. That winner will play the Minneota-Dawson-Boyd winner at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 2 at Milroy.
