Vikings turn back MAHCA, Marshall
Peyton Gillund notched a pair of first-period pins to record his 75th career victory and Minneota won both of its matches against Class AA opponents in the Morris Area/Hancock/Chokio-Alberta Triangular on Friday.
The Vikings topped MAHCA 39-34 and then knocked off Marshall 39-36, both times winning seven of the 14 matches but prevailing with bigger counters.
Gillund, ranked No. 4 at 120 pounds by The Guillotine wrestling publication, pinned his MAHCA opponent in 1:07 and then stuck his Marshall foe in only 34 seconds.
Also winning twice for the Vikings was Zack Fier, ranked No. 7 at 160 pounds, who earned a decision and a pin at 145 pounds; Alex DePestel with a forfeit and a decision at 160 pounds; Jonah Gruenes, rated No. 3 at 170 pounds, won by pin at both 170 and 182; and Hudson Scholten with a pair of pins at 285.
Minneota hosts United and Worthington in a triangular on Thursday, Feb. 3 beginning at 5 p.m.
