Vultures continue preying on their opponents
The Minneota Vultures Junior American Legion team has been having trouble getting in seven innings lately.
For the fifth game in a row, they routed an opponent, this time 11-1 over Granite Falls. “I thought Granite would be one of the tougher teams,” said Coach J.D. Pesch.
“They're not bad, but we are playing good right now.” On Friday, prior to the Mudhen game with Appleton, Jaymes Moon delivered three hits and helped the team to the big win. In the first inning, Jacob Hennen and Moon delivered the big blows as the Vultures began gobbling up Granite Falls.
They scored three more in the third after a double by Teddy Pesch and another Moon single. On in the fourth, an RBI by Landon Rolbiecki and two more in the fifth after singles by Cole Sanow and Moon led the rally.
“The boys are playing baseball. We are running the bases aggressively, being patient and thoughtful at the plate and our defense has been outstanding,” said Coach Pesch. “We are making fewer errors but more importantly, when we make an error we don't dwell on it, we move on and get the next one or get a base hit. It’s a much more calm approach to the game.”
Grady Moorse was the winning pitcher, hurling all five innings. He gave up just four hits, one run, had a walk and fanned two.
“It’s been so much fun to watch this team grow over the past 3-4 years,” said the coach.
“From the seventh to ninth grades, we were consistently getting beat by Canby, and Granite Falls.”
“Now, we have 10-runned them this summer and getting stronger. We have added players where other teams are losing players and having a hard time fielding a full team,” the coach said.
“I’m so proud of these boys, and we are having fun playing the game!"
