Vultures top Red Rock in season opener, 7-4
The Minneota Junior Legion Vultures opened the season with a 7-4 victory over Red Rock Central in a game called because of rain after six innings Monday night in Lamberton.
"Our offense was very good," said coach J.D. Pesch. "Our focus we have this summer is being aggressive on the base paths and learning base running and stealing. In this game, we had nine stolen bases."
The Vultures took a 4-0 lead with a run in the top of the first inning and three more in the third.
In that opening inning, Parker Bradley walked and came around to score on a double by Ryan Meagher. In the third frame, Ryan Dalager rapped a run-scoring single and Isaac Pohlen drove in a run with a double.
The Vultures increased their lead to 6-1 with a pair of runs in the fourth. Jack Lacek singled and scored on a double by Brody Larson, who eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by Ryan Dalager.
The final run came in the sixth when Lacek doubled, advanced on a groundout, and scored on a suicide bunt by Larson.
"We are trying to bunt a little more to get in the work for the tight games," Pesch said.
Adam Dalager started on the mound for the Vultures and hurled two scoreless innings. Bradley, the third pitcher used, picked up the win with 2 1/3 scoreless innings of relief. He gave up two hits, while walking three and striking out four.
"I was happy to see that all three of our pitchers worked themselves out of jams in multiple innings," Pesch said.
