Wins piling up with third straight sweep

•Minneota-Canby swept its third straight doubleheader to start the season; this time from Lac qui Parle Valley by scores of 8-3 and 4-2.

Brooklyn Nelson spun a five-hitter in the opener, and Sydney Larson followed with a two-hitter in the finale. Emily Pohlen, Madison Sorensen and Nelson had two hits apiece to spark the seven-hit attacks.

Kaylee Johnson had the other hit. In the first game, the Vikings plated three runs in the opening inning on a LQPV error that led to two runs, and a run-scoring single by Madison Sorensen.

The Vikings also notched three runs in the fifth inning on two walks, an error, and am RBI single by Nelson.

Nelson walked three and struck out seven in going the distance for the win. In the second game, Minneota-Canby utilized four extra-base hits, including Abby Hennen's one-out home run in the sixth inning.

Kaylee Johnson had three of the Vikings' eight hits, including a run-scoring triple. Hennen had two hits.

The Vikings were blanked over the first three innings before getting two runs in the fourth and single runs in the fifth and sixth innings for a 4-0 lead.

In the fourth, Katie Konold singled and advanced to third on a two-out double by Hennen.

A wild pitch scored Konold and Hennen scored on Johnson's triple.

Larson doubled in the fifth and came around to score on a groundout. Larson was cruising along on a three-hit shutout before Tori Bungaarden and Maci Lund had back-to-back singles. With one out, both runners scored on a double by leadoff hitter Sidney Gerders.

Larson then closes the book by enticing a pair of flyouts. Larson walked three and struck out in gaining her third win of the season.
