75 Years Ago-October 16, 1942
Silver wedding observed
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Pesek celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary at a celebration at Taunton on Wednesday. Many of their friends and relatives attended the celebration.
War time brings changes
War, and the demand for industrial labor, has brought about two business changes recently in Minneota. Gisle Johnson, who has been conducting a produce station for the Marshall Produce company for several years, has closed up his agency and gone to California. Mr. Johnson’s poultry and egg buying has been taken over by F. C. Denno, who came here from Marshall two months ago to open a feed store. John J. Jaschke, former Minneota teacher who opened a grocery store here ten years ago, is closing out his People’s Food Store and plans to enlist in the navy in December.
Funk-Vrowgindewey
Miss June Vroeginewey of Grand Rapids, Michigan and Ensign Leo A. Funke, formerly of St. Leo, were married September 12 at Saint Katherine’s church at Charlestown, Massachusetts, a suburb of Boston. The Reverend Father Canty officiated. Mr. Funke is the oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. L. P. Funke of St. Leo.

One of seven going to Chicago
Betty Eisenmenger, member of the Island Lake 4-H club and a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Eisenmenger of rural Minneota, is one of seven Minnesota clubs to be chosen to attend the National Safety Congress in Chicago October 22-25. She was awarded the trip on the basis of her activities in this 4-H safety project. During the past year she has been president of her club, the Zeps, and organization which has been very active in the safety project and she won the General Motors safety award in 1965.
St. Paul’s church in Minneota observing 80th Anniversary
St. Paul’s Lutheran church of Minneota, erected in 1895 at a cost of $2,087.05 with donated labor and material, will be the scene of festival communion services next Sunday morning when the congregation marks its 80th anniversary. Dr. E. E. Flack, professor at Northwestern Seminary, Minneapolis, will deliver the commemoration sermon, entitled “Reformation Life and Light”, and in the evening members of the congregation will gather in parlors of Hope Lutheran church for a banquet in observance of the event. Rev. S. T. Guttormsson of LaCrosse, Wis., will be the guest speaker, speaking on the topic “The Road From There to Here” and State Treasurer Val Bjornson will be the master of ceremonies.
Taunton building damaged by fire
The Taunton Fire Department was called to the barber shop at Taunton on Wednesday, October 11, about 4:30 p.m. when a lean-to on the barber shop caught fire. According to reports some children were playing with matches which started the fire. The lean-to was completely burned and damages were estimated at about $100. The building is owned by Larry Anseeuw.

Community saddened by loss of two of its members
This past week end Minneota was shocked to learn of the deaths of two of its members, Paul Nelson, 55, and Elizabeth Hoffmann, 31, died on Saturday and Sunday, respectively, leaving behind scores of relatives and friends. Paul died of a apparent coronary and Elizabeth, seven months pregnant, died of a acute asthmatic attack.
Overall fire poster winners
Minneota Fire Chief Jerry Kloos congratulated the overall winners of the Fire Poster Contest at the Fire Hall on Wednesday night. Able to attend were Jacquline Downing and Abby Opdahl. Josh Bottelberghe was also a winner in the older division but was unable to attend that evening.
