Askdal poultry wins at show

At the Lyon-Yellow Medicine Poultry show held in Granite Falls January 26 to 28, Askdal Farms of Minneota received championship ribbons for their Buff Orpington hen, Buff cockerel, pen of young Buffs, and their Toulouse gander.

Taunton Postmaster graduates as Army Air Force Technician

Private Raymond A. Panneck, former Taunton postmaster, writes from Madison, Wisconsin that he was among the January graduates receiving diplomas from the United states Army Air Force technical training command, department of communications, radio operators division. He studied at Truax Field at Madison.

Lyon men needed in Portland shipyards

The United States Employment Service office in Marshall is seeking men for work in a large Portland shipyard, Max Foster, Manager announced today. Mr. Foster Specifically pointed out, however, that while men are badly needed there, essential agricultural or produce workers need not apply, because they are needed on the farms and in the produce houses and cannot be considered for the shipyard jobs.

Accepting the trophy

Surrounded by his teammates, Greg Claeys accepted the championship trophy for Minneota at the end of the annual Junior High School Basketball tournament at Ivanhoe last Saturday night. The Minneotans defeated Hendricks, 35-28. The players are: Scott Nordquist, Douglas Dero, Douglas Spanton, Charles Dalager, Peter Gudmundson, Greg Claeys, Kenneth Byrne, Coach Krommenhoek, Steve Maertens, Robert Canton and Tim Pedersen.

Honored

Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Biel and family were honored at a potluck dinner on Sunday, February 11 at the Countryside Golf club. Mr. and Mrs. Biel, who have been on a year’s leave from their mission duties in Brazil, are returning there, leaving this Thursday.

Estate left to Canby’s Senior Haven

Mrs. Lydia Lueders Peterson passed away at Duluth last year and after her death it was revealed that she had willed her entire estate of $184,106 to Canby’s Senior Haven, according to the Tyler Journal.

25 Years Ago-Feb. 10, 1993

Sno-Ball Royalty

Jenni Boerboom and Mark Pohlen were crowned Sno-Ball Queen and King at the coronation held last Friday afternoon at a pepfest in the school gymnasium. The coronation and a girls’ basketball game followed by a dance were the culminating activities of a week of the Sno-Ball.

Finished art work

Elizabeth Wambeke, a third year art-student at Minneota High School, recently completed this interesting work using three separate canvases. This is an original work, and has many areas of interest. The colors are vibrant and show a lot of creativity.

M.H.S. Wrestlers are 18-0 record

Community members are invited to come to the pepfest at the high School gym for the wrestling team this Friday, February 12, beginning at 2:45. The regular season of competition is done and tournament action is set to begin.

Local girl chosen finalist in pageant

Amanda Hatletvedt, daughter of Darren and Susan Hatletvedt of rural Porter, has received word that she is a finalist in the Miss Minnesota American Princess pageant.
