75 Years Ago-Feb. 19, 1943
Mascot Lino deserted twice within a year
War service and war employment have left two vacant chairs in front of the Mascot linotype since last May. First we turned over Marvin A. Anderson to the army, and this week his replacement, Roland M. Hamlin, left in search of a defense job. Mrs. Hamlin, who was The Mascot local news reporter, has accepted a job in the office of the Tribune at Lake Crystal, the home of her parents. Mr. Hamlin went to the Twin Cities. The Mascot lessees, Tom and Amy Reinertson, are sharing the operating chore, while Edward W. Sanderson pinch-hits as editor. Miss Nida Kiley has taken over the personal and social reporting.
Blizzard ties rail traffic, No West Mail
Snow, wind, and subzero temperatures over the weekend caused erratic train services this week on the local line between Tracy and Pierre, S.D. We received our first mail from the towns of Porter, Taunton and Canby this morning, after a lapse of four days, or since Saturday night. Henry Burdorf, stations agent, said the express would run about ten hours behind schedule till Sunday.

50 Years Ago-Feb. 22, 1968
Visits his home town
Lester Josephson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Abo Josephson of this village visited Minneota briefly last Thursday and, while here, was given an official greeting by Mayor L. A. Dero. Josephson, who starred in eight-man football while attending the local high school and then went on to join the Los Angeles Rams, professional football club, where he was a key man in the backfield last season. A day to be known as “Les Josephson Day” is planned for Minneota for the near future but the date and plans have yet to be announced. It will be staged by the Minneota Businessmen’s association.
Remains of a kitchen
Rubble was all that was left of the kitchen at the Darrell Hovland farm home, four miles north of town, after fire of unknown origin gutted the downstairs Sunday evening while Mr. and Mrs. Hovland were away. The entire home was badly damaged by smoke and heat from the flames. The fire was not discovered until a passerby on a nearby country road discovered the flames coming outside the house and an alarm was put in to the Minneota Fire Department at about 9 p.m.

Two-act play at high school this weekend
A two-act play entitled “Death Trap” by Ira Lavine will be presented at the Minneota High School this weekend. The performances are set for February 20 & 21, at 7 p.m. The cast has only five members; Jason Myhre, Adam Hagen, Eric Alleckson, Arra Ross and Amanda Prinsen.
Coaches presented with plaque Athletic Director
Jim Rolbiecki presented a plaque to the Wrestling Coaches, Joel Skillings and Jeff Yeo, and team attaining a perfect 18-0 dual meet season. The presentation was made during the pepfest on Friday afternoon prior to the team wrestling tournament at Montevideo. Also taking part in the pepfest were the cheerleaders, the pom-pom squad, the band, and a skit involving the parents of the junior class members on the team.
Cotton Candy performs
This group of Junior High performers, known as Cotton Candy, performed a light number fro the winter concert at the high school last Tuesday night. Members are: Sheri Tillemans, Crystalynn Gratz, Nicole Coover, Ivy Hammerstrom, Bobbi Bottelberghe, Jennifer Flood, Janice Myhre, Laurie Anderson, Lisa DeSmet and Becca VanKeulen.
Junior Math League results
The Junior High Math League participated in their fifth meet on January 25th. In the individual competition, Laurie Anderson scored 28 points, Jennifer Flood scored 24, and Crystalynn Gratz, 18. Laurie Anderson is presently in 1st place in the region and also in the state. Jennifer Flood is in 4th place in the region and 8th place in the state. The 7th and 8th grade team won 3rd place.
