Taunton farmer dies
Frank Swedzinski, prominent farmer of Limestone and Alta Vista townships, died Saturday morning at the age of 55, after an emergency operation Wednesday night.
Tessmer-Myhre
Miss Ruth Myhre, daughter of Mrs. T. N. Myhre of Minneota, and Dr. Borath Tessmer, son of Mrs. Laura Tessmer of Hutchinson, were married Saturday, August 14 at the home of the bride’s brother, Nels T. Myhre, at 4218 20th Avenue South, Minneapolis.
Minneota starts SWM League Finals
Minneota plays Hansonville here next Sunday in the first of a two-out-of-three series for the Southwestern Minnesota League championship to decide entry into the state baseball tournament at Owatonna September 8-12.
Repairs deferred joke
Hubby - Why haven’t you mended these holes in my socks? Wifey - You didn’t buy that fur coat I wanted. So I figured if you didn’t give a wrap I didn’t give a darn.

50 Years Ago-August 22, 1968
Expect 2,400 exhibits at Lyon’s 65th fair
Pre-county fair entries indicate to date that more than 650 4-H members plan to show 2,400 various project exhibits at this year’s county fair. This is again a high for number of exhibits displayed according to Ray Newell, county agent.
Towers get treatment
Light towers at the Minneota high school athletic field were given a paint “treatment” last week. The towers were painted with aluminium paint as was the flagpole in Memorial Park.
Battery buggy
Truman Tollefson of rural Minneota, who suffers with a muscle sickness of his legs which is caused by diabetes, had a battery-operated go-cart built for him by his son, Dennis, who works as a welder in Minneapolis. Tollefson manages to scoot around the farm yard in this contrivance.
50th Wedding Anniversary
The children of Mr. and Mrs. Hero J. Maertens will hold an open house reception honoring their parents’ fiftieth wedding anniversary on Sunday afternoon, September first at the V.F.W. Club room in Marshall, MN.

Loralee Miller thanked for hard work
Artist Loralee Miller was presented with “bug mementos” by Boxelder Bug Committee members Sandy Tolk and Frank Josephson. Loralee has designed the logo for each of Minneota’s Boxelder Bug Days celebrations, and does other art work for the committee. A “self-instructed” artist, she is also a wife, mother of five, teacher’s aide in the public school and active in many community events.
4-H entries win purple awards
These are just a few of the local 4-H members who were awarded purple ribbons for their entries at the Lyon County Fair: Sharene Gossen, Becca VanKeulen, Jessica Nuytten, Kayla Ahern, Nicole Anderson, and Betsy Hunt.
Taking a 'pizza break'
A few residents from the Minneota Manor participated in the Summer Olympics which was held last Thursday in Canby. They were Edgar Gautefall, Ida Blake and Sylvia Madoll. The Jaycee members who assisted the Manor residents in their participation in the Olympics were Carol Myhre, Dee Hovland and Lois Schultz. On their arrival back to the Manor, they were all “treated” to a pizza supper.
