How to Cook a Turkey

The 2018 Edition of How to Prepare a Turkey for Thanksgiving

Mrs. Lisa Hart’s Kindergarten Class

“I would go to a farm in the country and ask them if they have a turkey. If they have some, I will ask if I can have one. When I get the turkey home, I will put gloves on and chop off the head with a knife. Then I will peel the skin off. I will put it on a plate and cook it in the oven for just for about ten seconds. Then I will put on baking gloves and take the turkey out of the oven and let it cool for like five seconds. I will make smushy potatoes with butter and pepper and celery and chips and crackers and cheese and that’s all. I will put all of that food on the table around the turkey. I will invite my cousins and mom and dad and Camen and there’s another little kid but I don’t remember his name and Kari and the dad of that family. I’m not inviting grandma and grandpa because they don’t know about this turkey party. The grown-ups will clean up the table and the kids will play. Then everyone will relax and watch a movie. That’s all I got.” -Jade Abraham

“I will go and look in the trees by my house for a turkey. If I see one, I will shoot it with my gun. I have a Nerf gun. I don’t think that will kill the turkey though. So I will go and ask my Grandpa with the pigs to borrow his gun. I will shoot the turkey with his gun and bring it to my house on a trailer. I think it could fall out of my car if I put it in there. I will cook the turkey on a pan in the oven for eleven minutes. When the oven beeps, I will take it out with a cooking glove. I will let it cool off for nine minutes. We will eat it with stuffing and potatoes and gravy and pumpkin pie. My mom and dad and grandma and grandpa and cousins – (did you know they moved closer?) and my brothers and our friends will all come and over and eat. When Thanksgiving is done, we put up our tree for Christmas!” -Max Buseth

“I will go to a forest by Canby. I will look around in the forest. I think turkeys fly, so I’ll have to look in the sky. When it lands, I’ll shoot it. I will shoot it with my 22. I will have to cut its neck. I will pull the feathers off and save them because maybe I could use them to make a picture or something. I will take the turkey to my house and wash it out. I will cook it in the stove for seven minutes on hot. I’ll put the alarm on so I will know when it is done. I will put a hot glove on and take it out of the stove so I can cut it up. My family will eat it with mashed potatoes and steak and ribs and carrots. We will put the plates in the sink and wash them. Then we will play.” -Henry Buysse

“I’d go to Brad’s Market or hunt for a turkey. I pick hunting. I would go to the woods and hunt with a shot gun. So, I guess I would have to go to the gun store first. After I shoot the turkey, I will take it home and cut it in half with a knife and cut the feathers off too. I will cook it in the oven for like six minutes. You have to wait for a while so it cools off because if you grab it right away it will be piping hot! There are these glove thingys to take stuff out of the oven. I don’t know…..I never use those things. But you know, a boxer would not use HIS kind of gloves to take the turkey out. I will make chicken and noodles to go with the turkey. Only three objects to eat. My mom and dad and brother and sister and uncle will eat the food. When we are done eating, we will play while my sister does the dishes. I’m glad my dog is not here right now because when I fake knock on the table, she thinks someone is at the door. I taught her how to sit, shake and stay. The end.” –Ehann Faris

“I will ask a chef where I should get a turkey. I will probably have to go to a farm that has turkeys. I will have to rattle em’ and get one with a lasso. Then I will chop the head off with an ax and pull the feathers off with a pliers. I will take the turkey home and put stuffing in it and cranberries around it. I will put it on a pan and put it in the oven for seven minutes. Then I will take it out with the hot gloves. You know those really big mittens that are really big. Then I will have my dad cut it up because I am not old enough to use the big knives. Then we will eat it. My whole family will eat it with bread and carrots and that’s it. Then my mom washes the dishes and the kids will play. Maybe I will help my mom. Then we put the turkey away and save it for the next Thanksgiving or if it gets too old, we will throw it away.” -Kestler Gillund

“I would go in the country by Drew’s place. There are woods there. I will just walk around until I see a deer and then I will shoot it with a 22 or a rifle. I will chop the head off with a knife. I have a Leatherman. It’s kinda like a knife. Then I will clean it. I have to clean the blood out with water. Then I will cut the feathers off. I will leave the feathers in the woods. I think I will bring a pan with me and just cook it right there on the grill. My dad will know when it is done cooking. You are really writing a lot of letters. Did I say all of that? My brothers will come and eat the turkey with me and my dad in the woods in a tent. I don’t know if my mom will come because she is afraid of deer and we are going to eat deer there too. That’s it!” -Camden Johnson

“I’d go hunting in the country under the leaves to find a turkey. If I see one, I’ll shoot it with a bow and arrow. I’ll buy that bow and arrow at Menards before I go hunting. I’ll cut the turkey up with a knife. I’ll take it home and cook it in a pot in the oven for one minute. The timer will go off and I will take it out with pot holders so I don’t burn myself. I need to cut the turkey up for everyone. We will eat chicken and milk and cake too. My dad will clean up the kitchen mess and my mom will go play with my sisters and I’ll play on my I-pad. I think then it will be winter so I’m done.” -Colten Kloos

“I will go outside to like a farm I think. At the farm I will shoot a turkey if it is sick. No, not a sick one…. a good one. I will take the turkey to Grandma’s house to cook it. I will take the feathers off with a knife. Wait, are you going to tell my mom and dad about this? I will put it in the oven to cook for five minutes. I’ll take it out when the beep goes off. I will put on gloves – not snow gloves – the kind you use when you take stuff out of the oven. Then I will stab it with a fork to get the chicken out. No, wait…this is a turkey! Then, we will eat it with ketchup. It’s nummy with ketchup! I will make corn and juice and nothing else. When Thanksgiving is over, my mom and grandma will clean the mess up. The boys will go shoot deer and the kids will play puzzles and read books.” –Tenley Mead

“I will go to a friend’s farm. I will look for a turkey and when I find one, I will kill it with an ax. I will take the turkey home and then I will cook it. I think in the stove. When the turkey is cooking, I will make salad with ranch and put pepper jack on the turkey. I don’t like pepper jack, but my cousins do. I will make quesadillas for me because I like them. And I am going to make a Thanksgiving cake because cake is good. I will also make a pie. When the stove beeps I will know that the turkey is done cooking. I will get two gloves. You know those gloves that don’t burn you? Then I will call everyone to come to my house to eat the food. I will give everyone a drink like orange juice or milk or water. Then I will get myself a drink. And THEN, we will eat. After we eat, we will have the cake and pie. It is a big celebration because it is Thanksgiving. After we are all done, it will be time to get ready for Christmas!” –Aaliyah Morgane

“I think I’d go to the woods in Canada. I will take a BB gun because other guns are just too big for me. I will just sit by a tree and hold my gun in my hand and when one comes by, I’ll shoot it. I won’t feel sad because turkeys are annoying. Have you heard the noise they make? I’ll go home with the turkey and put it in a pot. Oh wait, I will have to pull the feathers off three at a time until they are all off. The turkey will cook in the kitchen in a pot in the oven for 20 minutes. When it looks burnt, I’ll take it out with gloves on my hands. I will put it on the table with milk and fruit and cookies. I like cookies. My cousins (you know all of them so do I have to tell you their names) and my mom and dad and brother and aunts – Jayda and Yha Yha and uncle Mike and Jackson and Grandmas and Grandpas and everybody will all eat the food. Romo (he’s a dog) will finish up the rest of the food that everyone can’t eat when they are full. But, not the bones. He can’t eat the bones. And if everyone is not full and they are still hungry, I’ll just go shoot another one!” -Oakley Norby

“I would go to Grandma’s and Grandpa’s farm but I don’t think they have turkeys there. I think the turkeys live with the chickens. So when I find chickens, I would use a net to catch a turkey. I will have my mommy cut it because I am still little. I will put it in the microwave for like 10 hours. When it goes to one, the turkey is done. I will take it out with those safety gloves. I will cut it up with a knife and make fries and chicken nuggets to go with it. We will drink milk. My whole family will eat it together. Then when Thanksgiving is done, it will be snowing!” -Alyzabeth Schmidt

“I would go to Lucas’s farm. I would look for a turkey where the chickens are because the turkey goes with them a lot. I don’t like to eat turkey. I think we should just have regular food like mac and cheese or pizza. But, if I had to kill the turkey, I’d cut it with a knife. Wait…..actually, I’d just go buy a turkey from Walmart. I’d wait until everyone comes over like my cousins and grandma and grandpa and then I would cook the turkey. I would put a pan under it and cook it in the oven until the pizza gets done. I’ll pull it out of the oven with oven gloves and then I would cut it up. I might try turkey again like I did last year but I don’t like it. I’m eating pizza.” –Winston Strand

“First I would go to Dollar General and buy a turkey for about $20.00. Then, I will take the turkey to Grandma Tami’s house and cook it in the kitchen. I’ll put it in the bowl pan nicely and put it in the oven for five minutes. The oven says the timer with the numbers on it so I will know when it will be done cooking. I will open the oven door and take the turkey to my house. We will eat it there with mom and dad and my brother and sister. I will make gravy and chicken nuggets to go with it. We will all sit at the entry way table by my dad’s office and eat together. My sister will clean up the dishes and I will go upstairs. And then, when Thanksgiving is over, it will be Christmas!” -Harper Tolk

“You get turkeys from stores or farms. I’m going to a store because they’re too fast to catch. Maybe I’ll go to Walmart and buy one. For me, I would pay $5.00. The turkey is already dead so then I will go home and bake it in my oven for maybe three hours on one hot. When the oven beeps, I’ll take it out with those things on your hands that help you hold the pan. Then, you blow on it because it’s too hot. Everyone sits on chairs around the table. Maybe we will have real potatoes and milk to drink. I think my baby sister can eat the potatoes. She is nine months. And then when Thanksgiving is over, we don’t even have to decorate for Christmas because my tree is already up!” –Bentley Walerius
