Bradley, killed in Vietnam, to have story told at LCHM Jan. 20

Thomas Bradley of Minneota was killed in action while serving his country in Vietnam on June 19, 1969. His story will be presented at the Lyon County Historical Museum in Marshall at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 20.
The event will be held in the museum's conference room and is free and open to the public.
Tom's sister, Deb Ahmann of Marshall, will share some stories about the Bradley family and Tom's life and time serving his country during this Gold Star Family Program.
"(Lyon County Historical Society President) Bill Palmer interviewed me a few years ago as to the Gold Star family perspective of Vietnam," said Ahmann. "I had met Bill through his Vietnam GOLD College classes. When Bill shared that the museum was going to be doing a Vietnam exhibit about the Lyon County veterans and casualties, I offered to help however I could." Sergeant Thomas James Bradley served in the United States Army as a heavy-vehicle driver with Company E, 2nd Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 25th Infantry Division.
Bradley and others in his unit had been stationed near Saigon when they were hit by an artillery rocket mortar in Hua Nghia province of South Vietnam, a few miles northwest of Saigon near the Cambodian border. Thomas was 21 years old.
The PowerPoint presentation will include Ahmann taking audience members on a family journey before and after Tom's death.
"There will be photos, sharing stories, reading letters and my memory of A Week in June," said Ahmann.
Ahmann still carries the emotional scars from her brother's death over 54 years ago.
"I'm hoping for good weather ... and the strength to stay composed," she said about her program.
Thomas is honored on the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. Among his military honors were: Purple Heart, Combat Infantryman Badge, Marksmanship Badge, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Army Presidential Unit Citation, Vietnam Gallantry Cross, and Army Good Conduct Medal.
