GOLDEN GENEROSITY
It was a sea of Viking gold when the Minneota elementary school students gathered in the public school gymnasium last Thursday.
Each of the 330 students donned a Viking Valor t-shirt donated by Kevin Anundson-State Farm and Dr. Alex Lentz of Minneota Family Dental.
Elementary students at St. Edward School were also given t-shirts.
"We thought it would be good to do something for the students," Anundson said.
Anundson was given the idea by a teacher at the school and he contacted elementary principal Trent Johnson to see what could be done.
"Kevin reached out to me about what he could do and we decided on t-shirts for the kids," said Johnson. "It was a good time to do it with this being homecoming week at the school."
Anundson and Lentz's offices are in adjacent buildings along First Street in Minneota.
Johnson suggested having "Viking Valor" placed on the shirts with Anundson and Lentz approving.
"We thought it was a good idea and if (Anundson and Lentz) were willing to help out with the cost of the shirts, we would figure out a way to match the rest). They were willing to pay for all of the shirts."Viking Valor represents Honor, Respect and Expectations. Those words appear on the shirt as well.
"Every morning when we give the announcements, we reiterate the message that students should always honor the school, show respect and meet the teacher's high expectations." Johnson said.
Borch's Sporting Goods provided the printing for the shirts. Teachers recorded the sizes and amounts they would need for their class.
"This is one of those stories that shows the commitment to kids from the community,: said Johnson. "We really appreciate Kevin and Alex for doing this. And credit the teachers for helping to make sure each kid got a shirt."
