Hennen brings home national gold

Kate Hennen, local FCCLA chapter President and State FCCLA Vice President of Public Relations, is getting ready kick off the 2022-23 school year and lead members of the Minneota chapter as well as members across the state of Minnesota.
Hennen was instrumental in developing this year’s state theme which was inspired by the recent movie Top Gun: Maverick. The Minnesota State FCCLA theme is “Soar2Success” One Team. One Mission.
In preparation for her role as state officer, Hennen attended the 77th FCCLA National Leadership Conference in San Diego this summer and was recognized at the state officer installation ceremony.
Hennen also competed in the STAR (Students Taking Action with Recognition) Event Hospitality and Tourism and received the highest gold medal honor with her Bin, Bed and Breakfast project. Hennen put her project together with Kylie Loyson, who was unable to attend the national convention because of another commitment. So, Hennen presented the project to the judges alone.
The National Leadership Conference was back in full force, after two years of virtual and hybrid conferences. There were more than 7,000 participants. Minnesota FCCLA sent over 100 delegates.
Conference highlights included Red Talks, led by FCCLA members, The “bucket list” keynote speaker Kenyon Salo, and special event outings to the world-famous San Diego Zoo, Oceanside beach and the infamous Kansas City BBQ where notable scenes from the original Top Gun Movie were filmed.
Hennen is gearing up for additional leadership training with the state officer team to prepare an exciting year for the Minnesota FCCLA delegation.
