Route 68 band to perform Saturday at Legion

The Route 68 band, under the direction of John Voit, will be performing for a "Moonlight Serenade" dance at the American Legion building on Saturday, Feb. 11.
The evening event will be held from 7:30-9:30 p.m. with doors open at 7 p.m. The cost is $10 per person with proceeds going for refreshments such as appetizers, desserts and beverages served during the dance.
There are 20 members that comprise the Route 68 band, which performed for the annual Chocolate Affair around Valentine's Day each year as a fundraiser for the library. When COVID hit, the Friends of the Library cancelled the Chocolate Affair and have since held a fundraising raffle.
Voit thought this would be a good way for the band to get together again and hold a dance at the Legion. The band's inaugural year was 1985 and was then known as the Minneota Community Jazz Band. When Voit took over as director in 1991, the same year he was named the high school band director, the name was changed to Route 68 to reflect the majority of the band members who lived near Highway 68. Neal Bot is the only current member who has been with the band since its first year.
The band is expected to perform two sets that total around 25 songs. Paula Dovre and Chris Shuckhart will provide vocals.
