Safety concerns

School is just around the corner and it is time to start thinking about personal safety for our loved ones that are going away to college or trade school.
Before you put money down on an apartment for your son or daughter, I encourage you to do some homework to ensure the location is safe, the landlord is reputable, and that there are no other problems. You can start by talking to the local police department, preferably a senior officer, and ask them if they would put their loved one in that apartment or in that part of town. You can also talk to neighbors and businesses in the area to learn what they are experiencing.
This is the same advice I give when it comes to college students getting jobs or looking for recreational opportunities. A little work upfront will help prevent our loved ones from becoming victims.
