Winter driving safety can cover many things.
Today, I want to talk to you about the condition of your vehicle. How old is your battery? Is there corrosion on the terminals? As the temperature falls, weak batteries will fail. The best thing to do is to do a visual inspection of your battery and have your mechanic test it on a battery tester.
What about your wiper blades? Are they over a year old? Do they do a good job or do they just smear stuff?
We can’t forget about tires. Colder temperatures can cause tires to leak resulting in lower tire pressure and uneven wear. Have your mechanic check your tire tread and keep your tires properly inflated for your vehicle. You can find the correct pressure on the sticker on your driver’s door.
When was the last time you did a walk-around of your vehicle and checked all of your lights? Do they all work? Are they bright or dim/dirty? There is less daylight every day and having your lights working will help you see and be seen in the dark and bad weather.
Finally, do you have a survival kit? A couple of old blankets, a few energy bars, and a flashlight would be a few things to add to your vehicle supplies.
