Dalager’s set to close on May 1

Dalager’s Convenience Store and Gas Station, which has been a business in downtown Minneota for the past 59 years, will be closing its doors on May 1.

The store had been owned by Jeff and Erica Vierstraete for the last 15 months after they purchased it from longtime owners Chuck and Linda Dalager.

Erica Vierstraete confirmed that the store will be closing on May 1, but declined further comment.

When asked if the store will be put up for sale, Vierstraete again said: “I have no comment.”

Chuck and Linda owned the gas station/convenience store on North Madison Street for 35 years until selling it to the Vierstrates on Jan. 1, 2018.

The Vierstraetes retained the name “Dalager’s” after purchasing the business.

Chuck Dalager’s parents, Chester and Evelyn Dalager, originally began the business in 1960 as one of the first convenience-type stores in the area selling gasoline, food and other items.

Chuck worked for his parents at the business pumping gas, checking oil and washing windshields until he eventually took over the business from them in 1983.

One of the more popular items sold at Dalager’s over the years has been its pizza.

“I’m going to really miss that pizza,” said one customer, requesting anonymity.

“It was so good.”
