LETTER TO THE EDITOR

To the Editor,

In response to Dan Markell’s letter to the editor in the Mascot on Friday, Feb. 9, I suggest that reader’s fact check the reasoning for DirecTV’s decision to drop the right-wing conspiracy channel OAN. Yes, OAN has promoted conspiracy theories and outright lies on a number of issues but the proliferation of misinformation, disinformation, and conspiracy theories is beside the point.
Media experts say, and I quote, “Claims that DirecTV’s position is political bias are ridiculous. This is a business decision based on financial terms and not ideology.”
In other words, it hasn’t proved to be a money-making channel.
Speaking for myself, it is not the Democrats but a different segment of our population who would like control of the airwaves and are endangering our democratic republic.
