Lyon County looking for financial help after spring disaster
Disasters are one thing in Lyon County, getting helping paying for cleaning them up is another. Tuesday the Lyon County Board heard Emergency Director Tammy VanOverbeke give an update on the FEMA Disaster Declaration for Lyon County for the spring snow melt and ice storm on May 9.
Lyon County made requests to FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) for public assistance of $688,114. “There will still be a lot of numbers added to that. Not everything is in,” she said.
Debris removal totaled over $68,000; emergency protective measures was over $66,000; roads were extensive, including $92,000 in Eidsvold Township and $54,000 in Shelburne Township.
Water control problems came to $60,000; utilities to $20,000 and park clean-up at about $22,000.
“This is from areas that reported. Others did not report,” said VanOverbeke.
Board Chairman Gary Crowley asked if there was any word on the request made earlier this spring after the snow melt.
VanOverbeke said the request seems to be caught up in paperwork and has not been answered.
