Rubber Ducky races coming soon

The river hasn’t been turned into a community bathtub, but all those floating rubber ducks that will soon be seen bobbing in the Yellow Medicine River are making a big splash toward helping to fund the annual Boxelder Bug Days festivities.

The 14th annual Rubber Duck Race will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 6 at Countryside Golf Club, which is also serving a pulled pork sandwich special that day with either fries or chips for $7.

Contestants can purchase two ducks for $5. The ducks are all then dumped by Boxelder Bug Days royalty and volunteers into the river.

First place is worth $200. Doug Sarazyn won the top prize last year.

The second-place winner is awarded $100, third is $50, and fourth through seventh place each get $25.

Winners need not be present to win. After the seven winners are determined, volunteers then retrieve the remaining ducks using oversized fish-landing nets.

The Bug Days logo contest winner will also be revealed during the Duck Race.

Tickets for the Rubber Duck Race are available at Gislason’s Ace Hardware, Highway 68 Liquor, Brad’s Market, Minneota Building Materials, and Prairie Winds Wellness.
