Nov. 28, 2023 School Board Meeting Minutes – Regular Meeting

A school board retreat/work session of the Board of Education for Minneota Public Schools was called to order on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at 5:48 p.m. by
Chair Abby Thostenson.
All in attendance recited the Pledge of Allegiance.
Roll call was taken. Abby Thostenson, Carmen Panka, Jon Buysse, Tom Skorczewski, Ryan Runia, Terri Myhre, and Martin Hennen were present.
Also attending were administrators Heather Anderson, Trent Johnson, and Scott Monson.
Superintendent Monson shared survey results from an Effective School Survey that 33 staff members completed in August 2023, and discussion took place about the seven characteristics of effective schools, from the Association of Effective Schools.
The School Board and administration then worked through a SWOT analysis and discussed various strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats of/for the school district.
There was a short recess at 7:30 p.m. and the School Board came back together at 7:39 p.m.
The group worked through a prioritization activity/process and talked about potential immediate focus areas, short-term focus areas, and long-term, focus areas.
Before adjournment, a brief discussion about potentially conducting a formal strategic planning process took place.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:11 p.m.
