MINNEOTA AREA MEMORY

This photo taken in 1948 shows the former Porter Public School. After 1939, the school housed students in grades 1 through 8, while grades 9-12 attended Canby High School. Attached to the rear of the school was a garage which housed the bus driven by the janitor to transport the Porter students in grades 9-12 to Canby. The school closed in 1968 and all grades joined the Canby School District, allowing Porter students to attend kindergarten for the first time. The school was dismantled in the mid-1970s and the school grounds were given to the City of Porter by the school district and made into a city park.
